After studying geography, Michael Lobeck worked for eight years as a project manager and consultant for the State Development Corporation of North Rhine-Westphalia (LEG) in the areas of municipal consulting and urban development. In 2004 he moved to the Department of Geography of the University of Bonn. From 2006 to 2012, he led the evaluation of one of the first smart city projects in Germany on behalf of Deutsche Telekom: "T-City Friedrichshafen". He and his colleagues examined the effects of broadband information and communication technology on urban development. He is working as a freelance moderator and consultant in urban development. His main focus is about the opportunities and risks of smart cities and various aspects of administrative, political, business and civil society cooperation in urban development.
