Michael Roick studied Political Science, Sociology and Modern German Literature in Bonn and Berlin. After graduating as a political scientist, he first lectured at the Department of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and then worked as a research assistant at the German Resistance Memorial Center in Berlin. Since 1996 he has worked for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. From 1996-2001 he was Head of the Department of Political Education and Political Dialogue, and from 2001-2008 Head of the Foundation's Regional Program. This was followed by seven years in the international arena as Head of the Department for Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia before he returned to his domestic work for three years at the end of 2015. Since March 2019, he has been responsible for Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo from Belgrade as Project Director Western Balkans.
