Thomas Hestermann

Television journalist and professor of journalism, Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg

Thomas Hestermann is a television journalist and professor of journalism at the Hamburg campus of the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences.

Hestermann began his career as a reporter, portraying crime victims, accompanying violent skinheads and conducting a radio interview on the summit of Montblanc. He worked as a spokesman for an environmental association, moderated live on NDR radio and developed the television series "Tacheles - Talk am roten Tsich", which was broadcast by Phoenix and whose editorial team he headed for ten years.

Hestermann was a research associate at the Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony and optained his PhD in media studies. Since 2011 he has been a professor of journalism, temporarily in Cologne and Berlin, now in Hamburg. He researches stereotypes in the media, the spread of hatred on the Internet and violence reporting on television and newspapers. He is associated with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom as a liaison lecturer.
