The 6th Smart City Festival will address recent tectonic shifts in the whole of Europe and beyond. One aim is to outline strategies for securing a more resilient, sustainable and serene future in Europe while retaining a focus on the Western Balkans region.
The increasingly obvious effects of climate change and the need, due to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, to speed up the European energy and digital transformation are forcing European states into a catch-22 situation.
The dynamics created by the multitude of tasks produce an atmosphere with a plethora of uncertainties, which in return spawns a demand for security and predictability, but also for sustainability and courage among citizens, decision-makers, and stakeholders alike. The impact of all decisions is most strongly felt on the local level. Smart city concepts may offer test-bed, mitigation and development opportunities – hence, are a key area of interest.
